A lovely Artist Parent interview with Colette LaVette @Colette.lavette, an artist from the UK.
Tell us about yourself?
I live in the middle of England in a 17th century cottage, my studio is an old outhouse from which I paint mostly oil on linen and rag paper. I make most of my paints from earth pigments like ochre, iron oxide and green earth.
How has being a parent had a positive impact on your artistic practice?
I am determined to be a positive role model for my daughters which motivates me endlessly. Becoming a parent put in motion so much healing for me, which I think has made my art better. Their innocence and playfulness is also hugely inspiring.
What are the challenges you have faced in your artistic practice being a parent?
It may be more difficult to make it to events and shows out of working hours but overall that pales in comparison to the peace, joy and inspiration they bring
Is there anything else you would like to say, share or promote?
I’m currently working on my collection for next years show and private commissions so I don’t have much to share at the moment.
I am very excited to have two works on paper showing with Rhodes opening November 29th.
Thank you to Colette for sharing her story and thank you for reading. If you would like to read more stories or for your work to be shared then follow and tag @artist_parent on Instragam.
